This Children’s Privacy Notice is provided to education institutions that contract with MeTabi for products and services that they intend to use with students under age 13. We provide this notice to our education institution customers, and we encourage them to share it with parents. We post it here as well so that it is easily accessible to our education institution customers and their parent communities.

Last updated: 04/22/2026

When our educational institution customers (e.g., school districts) decide to use MeTabi products and services with their students under the age of 13, we rely on an authorized individual at the educational institution to consent to our collection of personal information from these students on behalf of their parents before we collect that information. In providing its consent to us, the educational institution represents that it is authorized to act in lieu of parents in doing so, or that it has obtained authorization from all such parents (to the extent required by applicable law) for us to collect personal information from these students in connection with their use of our products.

We provide this notice to help ensure that the consent provided by the educational institution is done with an understanding of what personal information we intend to use from children under age 13 and how we intend to use it.

MeTabi will generally collect the following personal information from students, including children under the age of 13:

  • Student email address
  • Password
  • First and last name
  • Audio conversation with the MIRA Coach
  • Transcript of the audio;
  • Assessment data associated with various activities within the Service
  • Provide aggregated usage metrics to schools and school districts

MeTabi may also use cookies to automatically collect certain other information, including usage information, browser and device information, log data, IP address, and approximate geolocation. This information is used to provide our services.

How We Use and Share Student Personal Information

MeTabi shall collect personal information from students under the age of 13 for the purposes of providing our services to the education institution and the students.

In particular, we may use a student’s:

  • Email address and password to allow them to log in.
  • First name to personalize our services and first and last name to provide reporting to the educational institution customer about the student’s use of our services.
  • Recorded audio, transcript, and assessment data associated with various activities within our services to provide the core language assessment functionality of the services.

We share certain student personal information with companies that assist us in providing the services as necessary to provide the services. This includes companies that provide cloud services for storage of the information, security services to help maintain confidentiality of the information, analytics companies that help us understand how our services are used and to troubleshoot issues. A list of third party service providers and the services they provide is available here.

The authorized individual at the educational institution may request, on their own behalf or on behalf of the respective student’s parent (1) to review personal information that is collected from their students under the age of 13; (2) to request deletion of any or all such personal information; and (3) to instruct MeTabi to cease further use or collection of personal information from any or all such students. MeTabi will otherwise delete personal information that is collected from students under the age of 13 once it is no longer needed to provide the services unless it is legally necessary for us to retain it for a longer period of time.

For example, we retain voice audio for as long as is necessary to provide the Services. This might mean, for example, that we retain voice audio for the duration of the chat session. Once that data has been transcribed, we delete the voice audio.

We delete transcripts of the chats and other Personal Information within 90 days after termination of a contract or within 30 days of a written request from the Customer.  During a contract term, we delete transcripts on an annual cycle.
